Explore the Landscape of the Legendary Warrior Queen Of Connacht
Queen Maeve (spelled Medb in Old Irish) the legendary warrior queen of Connacht, the western province of Ireland, holds a distinguished place in Bardic Legends. It is said that her father was king of Connacht before becoming High King of Ireland and she became ruler of Connacht after him. She had five recognised husbands, and ruled for over 60 years.
Walk in the footsteps of her Army as she led them into battle in the ancient Kingdom of Erris in North Mayo in what became known in ancient history as the Great Táin Bó Fliodhaise cattle raid. As you take this tour hear about the Legends, the Folklore and see some of the ancient sites attached to this story from circa 2000 years ago in the early Iron Age.
This Tour which includes transport can be done as a Walking (over one to three days) or Driving Tour (one day event) on our three known sections of the route, (As accurate as is now possible on the Modern Landscape). With the Final Battle finishing on a North Mayo beach which is part of the wild Atlantic Way.
Bring a rain jacket or wind breaker as sunshine is not promised. But, we can promise you a fantastic tour which will make you want to come back to tour the West of Ireland with us again.
